Lost in Guinean Cyberspace T-5

Sometimes your gut feeling does proof your right!

On Monday, I went back to the Guinean Embassy here and I was about to ask the consul if he was able to do anything about my application he struggled to find in the system Thursday last week. After a bit of waiting I was lead into the consul’s office again to find a completely transformed office with a new man who introduced himself as the new consul. He listed to my problem with attention and informed me that it was his first day in office and therefore, he had not yet received access to a laptop and the government visa system. I should send him my details to his private Gmail account and he would see what he could do for me. This is what I did as soon as I returned home on Monday.

Tuesday passed by and I heard nothing from either the consul nor the online visa system. Putting one and one together, my gut feeling told me that my visa application got lost in the Guinean cyberspace, especially after the previous consul had immense trouble finding my application in the system.

This morning, I bit in the bullet and resubmitted my visa application at the expense of again 81.89 US Dollars. While I was at it, I also submitted my visa application for the return leg at the end of November to get back home. Again I paid 81.89 USD and hoped for the best all day!

Just a few minutes ago, shortly after 11 o’clock at night, my phone buzzed and I received the two pdfs that I had been awaiting to longingly. Both visa applications I filed this morning had been approved by THE system and I now have the essential documents to show up at the Guinean border! Happy Days!!!

Tomorrow morning I will, however, have to return to the embassy and ask for a Laissez-Passer for my overlander vehicle for Guinea. I sincerely hope that that will just be a formality and done quickly.

RIP in Cyberspace Guinean visa application #1.
