A birthday in St Louis [C&T, Day # 41: 26.11.2023]

Today is Trevor’s 65 birthday !

We decided that we would take a drive around the island off St Louis, which has a real colonial feel to it with old style buildings, fishing boats and restaurants.

But first we needed to get some provisions which we did at the Auchan supermarket, which we know from Portugal. It was a medium size store which was stocked with a wide range of local and imported products. Ice was an important need as the cooler had not been running for the past day or so and so needed a boost to cool it down again.

Stocked up with the necessary goodies, we took the drive around the island with many stops to look at the views, fishing boats, ocean, lots of trash ( plastic water bottles are a major problem here in Senegal and elsewhere) and a nice hotel on the beach.

We then tried yo find our chosen restaurant for lunch but we couldn’t find it and the 2nd choice was closed, so we headed to the Flamingo where we had eaten previously with Ulrich and Alex. We treated ourselves to grilled langouste for Trevor and skewered prawns for Charlotte, and salad. It was a treat.

Then we headed back to the Zebrabar filling up the car on the way ready for the trip tomorrow over the border into Mauritania and to Nouakchott. For dinner we had canned guavas with custard, brought all the way with us from home, yummy !
