Concluding thoughts from C&T: 14.12.2023

So the final statistics show that we drove 12,857 kilometres and used 1,206.36 litres of diesel, giving a respectable 9.38 litres per kilometres, especially given that the car was fully loaded (the back seats were also full to the level of the front seat headrests) and considering some of the challenging routes we were on, but then, a lot of it was on open roads and not town driving 🤔.

Despite the almost 60 days on the road sitting in the car for hours on end, sleeping on the ground, on camp beds and on various hard and soft mattresses, Trevor woke this morning with a serious lower back pain, which persisted throughout the day. Must be the luxury and expensive mattress we have at home 😂🤣. Perhaps he should sleep in the tent in the garden😜.

Last night we took everything out of the car and this morning we commandeered 3 big machines (9 & 14kg capacity) at the laundromat to wash everything that needed a good washing. Slowly but surely through the day, most of the things have been put back into their storage places (for next time 😜) and Trevor swept a lot of Sahara sand and dust out of back of the truck. A full car wash or valet is needed to get the dust from the cracks and crevices both inside and outside.

Life will slowly return to normal but what a privilege it has been to add this amazing experience to our lives. The photographs will refresh the memories and sorting through them will be another huge task that will wait for the New Year as we enjoy some time with our children coming to visit from Canada.

We hope you enjoyed the journey with us, as much as we did in executing it.

  1. Well done, amigos”, congratulations! We could not have done and and enjoyed this like you guys. Chapeau!
Perhaps, we can do something a little bit less rough (less camping and sand) around Europe together?
    Abraço. M & I.
